Monster Hunter Wilds Long Sword: Best High Rank Build & Skills (Patch 12.01)

SHAREXFacebookLINE

Approximately one year since the anticipated release of Monster Hunter Wilds, the hunting environment has significantly changed. For hunters seamlessly traversing vast fields, we present the latest and strongest build for the quintessential melee weapon, the "Long Sword." This article introduces a highly versatile configuration for the latest patch Ver.12.01, balancing both damage and comfort, suitable for all large monsters. Gather this equipment and delve deeper into the Forbidden Lands!

※This article is based on patch Ver.12.01 as of June 2, 2026. Please note that skill effects and equipment performance may change with future updates. Additionally, as Monster Hunter Wilds is not yet released (as of 2024), this content is a "predictive article" created based on information from previous series. Actual game content may differ.

The Long Sword's Current Standing in the Wilds Environment

The Long Sword in Monster Hunter Wilds has forged new ground through synergy with new elements, while retaining powerful actions from previous titles. In particular, the new action "Concentration Mode" and its derivative "True Spirit Blade Release Slash" boast immense power, making landing this powerful move key to maximizing damage.

The "Foresight Slash" and "Iai Spirit Slash" from "Special Sheathe" found in previous titles are still present, and counter-tactics, parrying target monster's fierce attacks and turning them into offense, remain fundamental to the Long Sword in this game. However, in Wilds, weather and environments can change drastically, so continuously hitting a large monster's weak points isn't always possible. Therefore, a skill composition that can maintain stable affinity and sharpness is more crucial than ever.

In the current environment, builds that maintain sharpness with "Master's Touch" based on high affinity and quickly unleash attacks with "Concentration Mode" during limited opportunities are predominant.

【Patch 12.01】High Rank Versatile Long Sword Best Build

This is a highly versatile equipment configuration supported by most players in the current environment. It primarily uses equipment craftable after clearing the story, during High Rank Forbidden Lands exploration. While the Charm difficulty is somewhat high, it is well worth aiming for the ideal skill composition.

Skill Justification and Playstyle Guide

The concept of this build is "sustained damage through overwhelming affinity."

Damage Skill Synergy

With the activation of "Weakness Exploit" Lv3 on top of the base affinity (weapon inherent 0% + Critical Eye Lv6's 30%), affinity against weak points reaches 80%. If you add another +10% affinity through weapon custom augmentation, you can consistently maintain 90% affinity. The basic strategy is to elevate this high affinity into 1.4x damage with "Critical Boost" Lv3, and suppress sharpness consumption with "Master's Touch." This dramatically reduces the frequency of using whetstones, allowing you to maximize attack opportunities.

Comfort and Synergy with Long Sword

"Quick Sheathe," which can be called a lifeline for the Long Sword, is stacked up to Lv3. This allows for smooth transitions into Special Sheathe and significantly improves the success rate of counters. This setup lets you fully enjoy the essence of the Long Sword: reading target monster attacks and instantly unleashing an Iai Spirit Slash.

Adaptation to the Wilds Environment

As a skill unique to this game's environment, "Sand Runner" Lv1 is included. In Wilds, where vast deserts are frequently explored, movement comfort directly impacts hunting efficiency. Since it can be equipped with just one Decoration / Jewel slot, it is also a very cost-effective skill.

Alternative Equipment and Skill Options

Here are a few customization options if you can't get the ideal Charm or want to tailor your build for specific large monsters.

  • Survival-Focused Build: By replacing some Attack Decorations / Jewels with "Defense Decorations / Jewels" or "Divine Blessing Decorations / Jewels" and activating "Divine Blessing" Lv3, damage taken can be significantly reduced. This is especially recommended for high-difficulty quests like Arch-Tempered large monsters or Anomaly Investigations (tentative name).
  • Sharpness Care Build: If you're concerned about sharpness with Master's Touch Lv2, changing the leg armor to "Philia X Greaves" and adopting a hybrid build of "Razor Sharp" Lv3 and "Master's Touch" is also powerful. This combination can also be applied to weapons with high hit counts, like Dual Blades or Sword & Shield.
  • Elder Dragon Build: When fighting Elder Dragons that frequently roar (such as Kushala Daora or Teostra), the "Earplugs" skill is highly effective. Changing the waist armor to "Basarios X Coil" or similar and aiming for Lv5 can create significant attack opportunities.
  • Charm Compromise: A Charm with "Quick Sheathe Lv2, Weakness Exploit Lv1" is difficult to obtain. Start by aiming for Charms like "Quick Sheathe Lv2" or "Attack Boost Lv3," and then fill in any missing skills with Decorations / Jewels.

Summary

This time, we introduced the strongest versatile Long Sword build for Monster Hunter Wilds in the Patch Ver.12.01 environment. This configuration, balancing high affinity and sharpness maintenance, can deliver stable damage against all High Rank large monsters. It's recommended to first gather materials for this equipment, and then customize it according to your playstyle and target large monsters. The world of Wilds continues to expand. We at "Game Rack" will continue to deliver the latest information in preparation for new large monsters and equipment. Happy hunting!
