WHY PLAYERS GET STUCK
Talking to Jarvis is optional: Captain John Bourbon can start the quest directly. You can even speak to neither NPC and kill Kyzogg first; the quest then advances to the post-kill stage. For the route, cross the bridge north of Devil's Crossing, pass through Lower Crossing, cross the stream, and take the left fork toward Burial Hill.
WALKTHROUGH
- 1Start with Jarvis or Captain Bourbon
- ▸After the opening, speak to Hangman Jarvis beside the warding circle; he sends you to Captain John Bourbon.
- ▸Bourbon stands up the road in the courtyard near the stone bridge. He asks you to stop whatever is raising the dead beneath Burial Hill.
- ▸Jarvis is optional: speaking directly to Bourbon starts the quest, and advancing before either conversation does not make it missable.
- 2Travel through Lower Crossing to Burial Hill
- ▸Cross the stone bridge north of Devil's Crossing and head north through the ruins of Lower Crossing.
- ▸Activate the Lower Crossing Riftgate on the way to shorten corpse runs and the return trip.
- ▸After crossing the stream beyond town, take the left fork and follow the sign toward Burial Hill.
- ▸Climb the hill and enter the Burial Cave.
- 3Kill Kyzogg in the Burial Cave
- ▸Kyzogg the Reanimator is in the southeast corner of the Burial Cave.
- ▸Kyzogg summons minions. Thin them out or separate them from the boss if you begin to get surrounded.
- ▸The cave contains the first Devotion Shrine encountered in the game. Restore it with an Aether Crystal and claim the Devotion point.
- 4Report back to Captain Bourbon
- ▸After killing Kyzogg, use the Lower Crossing Riftgate to return to Devil's Crossing.
- ▸Report to Captain John Bourbon in the courtyard near the stone bridge.
- ▸Rewards include XP, Iron, and +500 Devil's Crossing reputation; Helping Out and Welcome to Devil's Crossing are unlocked.
STILL LOST?
If you cannot find Burial Hill, go north from Devil's Crossing through Lower Crossing, cross the stream beyond town, and return to the fork immediately afterward. Take the left road by the sign; once inside the cave, head for its southeast corner.
There is no time limit or failure branch, and the quest can be completed even if its starting NPCs are skipped. Remember to restore the Devotion Shrine in the Burial Cave.
